    Hello,

    I have an existing KMS server running Windows 2008 Server SP2 that is hosting a KMS key for Windows 2008 Server. I now have additional keys for Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2. From what I have read and seen so far, it does not appear that I can install multiple keys on a single KMS host. Is this correct? I have already installed KB968912. Thank you for your help.

    Hello Dylan,
          Your KMS Key for Windows 7 / 2008 R2 will activate Windows Vista / 2008 machines as well as the newer versions. You are correct in installing the KB968912 on the server, now all you need to do is run "slmgr -ipk <PRODUCT KEY>" and then "slmgr -ato" on the KMS Server and you should be good to go. The one thing to note is that if your KMS Server is Enterprise/Standard you will be able to install Channel B Key and not the Channel C key.

    My KMS servis is 2008 x64 SP2 and the hotfix kb968912.  -itp is not an option with my version of slmgr.  I would like to use this single KMS server for activation of both my server 2008 and windows 7.

    What is Channel B key?

    Hello Paul,
        I had a typo - I just corrected, it's -ipk not -itp.

    B Channel key is the KMS key that will activate 2008/R2 - Standard, Enterprise, Web, HPC, Vista, and Windows 7

    When you got your KMS keys they should have given you a Channel C, B, A, and Client.

    Hey Tanner,

       I just implemented KMS in our organization.  My predecessor had some weird stuff going on, but I have cleaned everything up, and reduced it down to 1 KMS server.  I have installed kb968912, and this is a Server 2008 SP2 x64 box.  All of our Server 2008 machines are activated, but it is not activating any of our Vista boxes.  It just puts them "In OOB grace" status, according to VAMT.  Our KMS key is VOLUME_KMS_B channel.  Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

    Since I have posted the orginal question, I had to rebuild my KMS server on a Windows 2008 R2 server due to a requirement to license office 2010 via kms.  2008 R2 is a pre-requisite for office 2010.  Since then I have not had any issue of since applying my channel b license and using the kms installation process for off 2k10.

    This post comes up as the first result of a Google search about "KMS multiple keys" but this discussion is basically useless. It is not explained how to install a second VL2 onto a KMS that already has a VL2 installed.

    For the rest of us still looking for answers to this question, this article should be changed to NOT ANSWERED and probably deleted since the content in this thread is useless.

    You can only install one Windows KMS key on a KMS host. 

    You do not need to install multiple Windows KMS hosts on a KMS host.

    That's not really the question. Of course it would be pointless to have more than one "Windows OS" VL2 of the same version, installed on a single KMS host.

    The question are:

    1. Can you have multiple VL2's for different products on a single KMS host? Let's say you have:

    - Windows 8 VL2

    - Windows 7 VL2

    - Office 2010 VL2

    - Server 2008 R2 VL2

    Is a separate KMS host needed for each of these keys?

    2. If only a single VL2 can be on any given KMS host, what happens to activation of a Windows 7 or Server 2008 R2 computer with an Office 2010 VL2 installed? Apparently the Windows 7 / Server 2008 R2 operating system would now have no product key installed for the OS itself.

    Hello,

    Only one Windows key can be install on a KMS host.  to activate all the Windows clients, you would need a Windows Server 2012 KMS host key.

    Only Server keys can be installed on Windows Servers that are acting as KMS hosts.  The Server keys are hierarchical so they apply to prior versions of Windows Servers and Windows client machines.  Since Windows 8 is on the list and this is a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine, I expect you would need Windows Server 2012 KMS host to be installed.

    You can also install the Office 2010 KMS host key on Windows Server 2008 R2, that is not a Windows Product so that key can be installed as well, ( only one Office KMS host key can be installed.)

    2) You can install One Windows KMS host, plus you can install KMS host key for another product lines like Office,

    Hopefully someone eventually will read this thread tryng to install Office and Windows KMS keys like me. In short - yes you can have two KMS keys on a single server. One for Windows and one for Office. Windows key installation is well covered here and there. To install an Office 2010 key after that you must download this package  http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=25095 and install it on your KMS server. It will ask for Office 2010 KMS key, and activate it online. To check your Office 2010 activation status enter "slmgr.vbs /dlv bfe7a195-4f8f-4f0b-a622-cf13c7d16864" in command prompt.

    You can probably install Office 2013 KMS key the same way, you'll need Office 2013 pack http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35584. You can check Office 2013 using this command "slmgr.vbs /dlv 2E28138A-847F-42BC-9752-61B03FFF33CD"

    5) you need further Windows updates, and then input the WS2012R2 KMShost pkey.

    Yes.  You can use 1 KMS host server to handle keys and activations for multiple Operating Systems and Products.  The KMS “Host Key” on the KMS server itself determines what product lines the KMS box will service.

    For example:

    A 2008R2 computer running the KMS service licensed with a Server 2008R2 KMS “host key” can be configured to hold licenses and activate clients for the following products:

    Server 2008R2

    Server 2008

    Windows 7

    Office 2010

    You can also load product version specific volume license keys if necessary; like separate keys for Windows 7 Pro and Windows 7 Enterprise, or Office 2010 Pro and Office 2010 Standard.

    A 2012 computer running the KMS service licensed with a Server 2012 KMS “host key” can be configured to hold licenses and activate clients for the following products:

    Hello,

    There can only be one Windows KMS host installed on a machine, there cannot be Windows product specific Host keys.

    For Windows Client machine there is only KMS host key per product, there isn't a separate one for Pro and Enterprise.  Windows Client KMS host keys can only be installed on Windows Client machine.

    If you want to use a Windows Server machine as the KMS host you will have to install a Windows Server KMS host key which will also activate Windows client machines

    You can install the relevant Windows update on WS2008R2 or WS2012 or WS2012R2 to enable the KMShost features.
    You can also install the relevant Windows update on WS2008R2 or WS2012 or WS2012R2, for Office2010 KMShost and/or Office 2013 KMShost. I have several WS2008R2 machines which act as KMShost for all VA products (KMSclients).

    You can co-host the 3 types of KMShost all on WS2008R2 if you wish (this is exactly what I've done multiple times in various networks).

    There are quite a few variations possible - but, you cannot install a WinVista/Win7/Win8.0/Win8.1 KMShost product key on a Windows Server OS. Not in any way. But, if you have a Windows Server KMShost product key, that will issue activations for Windows Client OS editions (WinVista/Win7/Win8.0/Win8.1)
