Only one instance of wusa.exe is allowed to run RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I get the error 'Only one instance of wusa.exe is allowed to run' when I try to install the KB3072630  in a server 2012 datacenter.

Looking in the event viewer I see the following:

Windows update  could not be installed because of error 2147944018 "Another installation is already in progress. Complete that installation before proceeding with this install." (Command line: ""C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe" "C:\Users\Administrador\Downloads\Windows8-RT-KB3072630-x64.msu" ")

I've started the service 'Windows installer' and checked that there isn't any wusa instance already running in the server.

Can anybody help to fix this problem?

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards.

    2. Open Command Prompt Run as administrator
    3.  In "Administrator: Command Prompt" window, type in "net stop WuAuServ" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
    4. Click the "Start" Button, in the "Start Search" box, type in "%windir%" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
    5.  In the opened folder, look for the folder named "SoftwareDistribution".
    6. Right-click on the folder, select "Rename" and type "SDold" (without the quotes) to rename this folder.
    7. Still in "Administrator: Command Prompt" window, type the command "net start WuAuServ" (without the quotes) in the opened window to restart the Windows Updates service.

  • Hi droig,

some questions. Is this error only happening with KB3072630 or with any others? Have you stop  anti-virus software? have you Check another Instance of “wusa.exe" on Task Manager ?

    Try the methods below:

    Method 1:Disable Your Third-Party Antivirus

Method 2:Check the Status of the Windows Installer Service

type services.msc on start menu >Double-click Windows Installer >Set the Startup type of your Windows Installer to Manual.

    Method3: Install the Update Manually

  • Hi Sylvia,

there isn't any antivirus in this server at this moment.

The windows installer service is set to Manual.

The Windows8-RT-KB3072630-x64.msu update is the update which is giving the error.

    Thanks.
