windows server 2012 r2 VM disk size RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

    I have a VM running under Hyper-V 2012
VM Os : Windows server 2012 R2 with all updates installed.
Disk Size is 275 GB with 42 GB free.
SQL server 2012 is installed on this VM. Data size about 35 GB
I have checked the total file size of all files and directories including hidden system files and I have access to users directories
I get a total of 54 GB that includes also pagefile.sys (7.5 GB)
    Chkdsk has found no problems.
Disk space optimization is 100% on both partitions.
Disk cleanup tools has found about 2.4 GB (including system files)
Indexing service is not running. (no windows.edb).
VM disk type: Dynamically expanding virtual hard disk
    VHDX file size 257 GB

How can I find who is talking about 210 GB of data and clear it?

  • You don't have access to all files and folders in OS, even you're admin. You have to use third-party apps to achieve this goal. WinDirStat (as noticed above) or TreeSizeFree. Run it as administrator.
