Error reporting infrastructure master RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have two DC's in a single forest. The dc holding the schema has all operation master roles except infrastructure. The other dc holds the infrastrure role. On the schema dc it reports an error for the infrastructure master when I check the operation masters thro AD, on the other DC it correctly reports all the operation masters.

I have checked DNS and everything appears ok.

    Any advice would be appreciated

  • Use ntdsutil to transfer the infrastructure master role (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/255504) to the other DC and try again. This appears to be just an issue with ADUC interface - you might want to try removing/readding Adminpak.msi.
The placement of infrastructure master is irrelevant in a single domain forest. Designate both domain controllers as GCs.

  • What's the error message you are referring to? Have you tried transferring the infrastructure master role to the other DC?

  • Hi Marcin,

When I check the operation master roles on the primary dc thro' ad users and computers the infrastructure role just says error nothing else. The same option on the secondary dc shows all the operation masters correctly. I only have two dc's and cannot make the primary an infrastructure master as that is the gc for the domain.

  • Hi Syed,

The top result is from the secondary dc, the lower is from the primary dc.

    C:\Program Files\Support Tools>netdom query fsmo
    Schema owner                vm-mctdc.mct.suffolk.sch.uk

    Domain role owner           vm-mctdc.mct.suffolk.sch.uk

    RID pool manager            vm-mctdc.mct.suffolk.sch.uk

    Infrastructure owner        mctbackup.mct.suffolk.sch.uk

    The command completed successfully.
