How to restore NTBackup's BKF file on Windows 2008 R2?

    Question

  • Hi,

I would like to find some procedure how to restore files from BKF file on Windows 2008 R2.
NTBackup has been replaced in Windows 2008 by Server backup tool, but there was an option to restore BKF files using NTBackup restore utility. This tools unfortunately requires removable storage component, which is no longer available in Windows 2008 R2. So my question is: How to handle with BKF files in Windows 2008 R2 server?

  • If you're ever stuck and can't download the Hotfix and have access to a Server 2003 (or Windows XP Pro) the following THREE files (Make a little folder called NTBackup on your C drive or Desktop) will operate NTBackup.  All three are located under the %SYSTEMROOT%\system32 folder

    NTBACKUP.EXE

    NTMSAPI.DLL

    VSSAPI.DLL

It will complain about the lack of a Removable Storage service but this will catalog and backup.  I prefer the Hotfix myself but if you can't download it and have access to an older server, this will work.

  • In order to Restore Ntbackup (.bkf) files after corrupt of original Backup data of windows XP or facing any problem with BKF file corruption due to CRC (cyclic redundancy check) error and any other reason, then In this condition, you can make use of 3rd party Stellar Phoenix Bkf Recovery that can restore all the valuable Exchange data.
