DFS-R problems between 2008 SP2 and 2008 R2

    Question

  • Hi all,

we have new problems with DFS-R (a very mighty but tricky technology :). We have upgraded two of our four DFS server to R2 (now the DFS-R version on 2008 SP2 is 6.0 and on R2 6.1). Since we had upgraded two of them to R2 the 2008 SP2 didn't replicate to R2 and vice versa. The two R2 server are in sync and the two 2008 SP2 server are in sync.

Are there any known issues using DFS-R between 2008 SP2 and 2008 R2?

    Kind regards,
    Martin

  • Hello Martin,

Yes. We can use DFS replication technology to distribute DFS file share among Windows Server 2008 SP2 and Windows Server 2008 R2 based-DFS member server.

There are some issues we may need to be aware. You may refer to the following list to check the issue and apply the corresponding hotfix on the DFS member server.

List of currently available hotfixes for Distributed File System (DFS) technologies in Windows Server 2008 and in Windows Server 2008 R2

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968429

A warning event is logged repeatedly on a member computer that is running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2003 R2 when you configure read-only replicated folders on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/959542

SYSVOL migration to DFSR unnecessarily replicates or conflicts files in Windows Server 2008

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972105

    Hope this can be helpful.

  • Hi,

we have new information. We found this error with the DFS-R propagation report.

< LastErrorMessage > Mitglied "2008SP2.htl-wien5.school" : Die Daten des WMI-Anbieters können auf dem Mitglied nicht gelesen werden. Fehler bei der WMI-Abfrage "Select * from DfsrIdRecordInfo where ReplicatedFolderGuid = "20CDE110-FE6C-4EC0-9429-6290C8425D9F" AND Fid = 562949953811003". Nicht gefunden (Fehlercode 0x80041002) </ LastErrorMessage >

It seems to be an access problem between SP2 and R2.

    Hope this helps!

    Kind regards
    Martin
