Windows 10 Remote Desktop App fails to sync with feed RRS feed

  • Question

  • So we have RDS deployed with HA gateways and external Web Access servers and all seems fine with users accessing the Web Access portal.

Users also working fine with the Remote Desktop app installed on iOS and Adndroid devices, also able to connect to the feed via the Windows control panel and RemoteApp and Desktop Connections. However, on the same PC's the windows 10 remote Desktop App downloaded from the store fails to synchronise with the webfeed. We have tested the Remote Desktop app against other feeds and it seems to work.

Any suggestions on why it works with other feeds but not this one, especially when the same app on other devices works fine, as does the portal and the RemoteApp and Desktop Connections. How does the windows 10 Remote Desktop app differ?

    Kind Regards Michael

  • So I have managed to resolved the issue!

It turns out that because we were running external web access servers in HA, although we had updated the machine key for the RDWeb virtual directory to match, the machines keys on both the Feed and FeedLogin virtual directory's as soon as we matched the machine keys on both servers all began to work.

    Thanks for all your assistance.

    Hi,

Please clarify specific steps performed and the exact issue. By synchronize, do you mean initial webfeed setup process or update process?

Is the RD Web feed URL configured manually on Windows 10 client or deployed via Group Policy?

What's the build version of the Windows 10 system? You may run WinVer to get build version.

    Best Regards,

    Amy

  • Hi Amy,

We are opening the windows 10 app and adding the connection feed. We put the feed url into the window and then add the user details. It then sits there for a few seconds before it come back with an error saying it cant sync the apps.

They are not domain joined machines, most are external and the same machine successfully attaches to the same feed url to add the apps via the remote connection control panel option.

    The windows version is 1703.

The Remote Desktop app works in the same feed on all other devices such as iPad etc.

    Thanks Michael

  • Hi,

There is no issue adding Remote Resource in my lab on a Windows 1703 system that's not domain-joined, the build version is 15063.540, the version number of Remote Desktop app downloaded from Store is 10.1.997.0.

Please ensure that the URL was typed correctly, and I suggest you try to test within LAN to see whether it's an issue related to network.

    Best Regards,

    Amy

  • Hi Amy,

the feed is typed correct, it also works on the RD Client on all other devices (iPad, iPhone, Android, windows tablet)

It only fails when we try to use it in the Windows 10 client. Strangely enough, on the same Windows 10 pc we are able to add the connection string to the RemoteApp and desktop Connections settings tab from within the control panel and this works.

Seems to be just the Windows 10 app - it does work with other RDS feeds though.

One thing we did notice is that sometimes if you refresh it enough, the app connects then fails shortly after. Very odd behaviour that is not replicated on other versions of the app.

    thanks Michael

  • Hi,

Would you please try to re-install the Remote Desktop connection app to test?

    Best Regards,

    Amy

  • Hi Amy,

This has been done but we also experience the same issue when running the app on other Windows machines.

It must be an odd RDS configuration but its seems very odd that it works sporadically and that the app works on all other platforms other than windows 10.
