Remote Management with Windows 2012 and WIndows 2008 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've 3 servers

    -Server A: WIndows 2012

    -Server B: WIndows 2012

    -Server C: WIndows 2008

    Using this code:

    $cx = New-CimSession -ComputerName Server<X>
    Get-NetAdapter -CimSession $cx

    ServerA querying ServerB => GOOD

    ServerB querying ServerA => GOOD

    ServerA querying ServerC => BAD

    ServerB querying ServerC => BAD

    So everything works between 2012 boxes, but doesn't work when I try to query my WIndows 2008 server. Is this normal ?

    The error message is:

    Get-NetAdapter : The WS-Management service cannot process the request. The service cannot find the resource identified
    by the resource URI and selectors.

  • The MSFT_NetAdapter classes do not exist in Server 2008.   It's not about the powershell version, it's about the WMI class(es).    Get-NetAdapter is a 2012+ cmdlet and unless Microsoft provides an update to 2008 R2 to provide those classes, it will not work.
