How to stop windows update modify mscomctl.ocx RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there,

We use mscomctl.ocx in our application. The windows update keeps on modifying this control with the latest version, but we only need to keep the older version. Is there a way to stop the windows update to a particular control?

  • Hi,

Maybe we could turn automatic updating off:

  • Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Update.
  • In the left pane, click Change settings.

  • Choose the option that you want.

  • Under Recommended updates, select the Include recommended updates when downloading, installing, or notifying me about updates check box, and then click OK. Administrator permission required If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  • Hello,

If windows update is the issue, then turn off and keep the windows update and its service.

You can manually turn on this settings when required at the time of patch update progress.

if the update settings is manged by group policy, then have exception for the same by disallowing the settings.

  • Turn windows update at off and make sure the patch you install does not update that files. Block LOCALSYSTEM the write flag could help, but will make all update fail.
