Three Way Mirroring

Question
-
Hi there,
I Can't understand why Storage Spaces require at least 5 disks to get 3 Way Mirroring ?
Original Data + 2 copies = 3 disks not 5 ...
I'd be glad to get some technical informations about that subject, how data are stored/organized on disks ...
Could someone help please ?

Hi, Vurtual Server 2005.
Pool requires a quorum of 50% plus drives to be present to survive.
with 3 way mirror - we have a guarantee of surviving 2 disk failure.
