What causes a machine to get dropped from WSUS? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have about 300 Virtual test Machines (XP, Vista, and Win7) that I manage with WSUS.  The Virtual Machines are off most of the time, but I routinely turn them on the the monthly windows updates and then turn them back off after the updates are completed.  This month, WSUS seems to have "dropped" (for lack of a better term) about 60 of these machines.   I haven't detected any pattern to the machines that were dropped other than they were off for a significant amount of time during the past 30 days.  Is there a setting I can set to prevent this?

  • The only thing that can remove machines from the WSUS collection is the Server Cleanup Wizard. It remove any system that has not reported in more than 30 days. You cannot change this in the native console, but you can unselect the "Delete computers" option of the Server Cleanup Wizard when you run it.
