  • KB977290 generally only applies to domain controllers, and specifically only to certain server platforms running those domain controllers.

KB978706 only applies if MSPaint is installed, and only the version of MSPaint installed on 2000/XP/2003 systems.

KB975713 also only applies to Windows 2000/XP/2003 systems.

Reading the associated KB articles and MSRC Security Bulletins is a great way to get answers to these type of questions, and better understand what behavior to expect from your update deployment efforts.

None of these three Security Bulletings explicitly state, or even imply, that these updates need to be installed to ALL computers. In fact, each of the three explicitly identifies platforms where the updates are not applicable.

MS10-005 and MS10-007 are exceptionally clear that the affected issues only exist on v5 operating systems, and MS10-014 explicitly identifies which platforms are affected and NOT affected, and the issue only affects v5 server operating systems and Windows Server 2008 SP2 non-Itanium systems.
