Time zone RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I would like to allow users to change their time zone but not the time.
    Is it possible through GPO?
The settings I found allow users to change both settings and not only the time zone.

    Regards,

    Michael.

  • Hi,

Do you have Vista or Windows Server 2008 Domain member machines? If so, you could install RSAT on Vista to configure this policy.

    Thanks.

  • Hello,

you can create a startup script on the OU where the machine belongs to with a registry key change or timedate.cpl.

  • Hi Michael,

In Vista/Windows 7 system, normal users have rights to change time zone.

In Windows XP, you could deploy the following policy

    [Computer Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment\Change the time zone]

Add administrator, users group to the allow list.

Apply this GPO to Windows XP clients and test.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Mervyn,

    Thanks for your answer.

But how can I deploy the Vista policy to XP?

    Michael.

  • Hi,

What do you mean by "deploy the Vista policy to XP"? The policy [Computer Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\User Rights Assignment\Change the time zone] is a very old policy and works on Windows XP.

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

In windows XP SP3 I only see the "Change the system time" policy and not the "change the time zone" policy.

My question was how can I have this policy in Windows XP SP3 in a W2K3 env. ? I found that I can apply this policy if I have a W2K8 DC but I don't have it.

    Regards,

    Michael.
