How to integrate with Hyper-V by API RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We are going to integrate Hyper-V into a product of our company, so I'd like to know if there are any APIs provided by Hyper-V which can be used by us to manage virtual machine. Any SOAP or RESTful API, our product is written by C and running on Linux, is it possible to connect to Hyper-V with C from Linux?

    Thanks,

    Eric

  • The Hyper-V WMI interface is open to anyone to use.  It is built-in to the core Windows OS.

For example:  SCVMM actually uses this interface.

WMI is the defaco-standard API for Windows.  It is the Windows implementation of CIM and thereofre actually based on standards and is not going away anytime soon.

The datacenter toolkit is just a bundle of resources, it is not an API.  http://www.microsoft.com/hosting/dynamicdatacenter/About.aspx

It is for those folks that want to roll their own front end for Hyper-V.

  • Thanks for your reply!

BTW, I found there a Hyper-V WMI provider in MSDN (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc136992%28VS.85%29.aspx), Can I use it? What is the difference between this WMI API and the dynamic data center toolkit you mentioned?

    Thanks!
