Meltdown & Spectre Patches Clarification. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

We use WSUS tool for patching Windows Server in our Environment. From January, we declined all Meltdown and Spectre patches specified in the below link as it was causing performance issues.

These patches have been superseded in the following months, For Exampe, KB4056894 (jan release) has beend superseded by KB4074598 (Feb Release). similarly other patches have also been superseded in the following month.

Here we need a clarification whether the superseding patches are also defined as Meltdown and Spectre (superseded patches were not mentioned in above link). Also please confirm if the superseding patches of Meltdown/Spectre has any performance issue.

  • Hi, confirm the superseding patches are defined as Meltdown and Spectre, here is link for your reference http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/ScopedViewInline.aspx?updateid=99136feb-acc1-4646-b69e-209d8b38316d, click Package Details, you could see the KB4074598 has also been replaced by KB4088875 and the latest superseding patch is KB4103718, which is updated on 5th May, 2018.

BTW, for latest superseding patch KB4103718, we haven’t found any performance issues in Microsoft TechNet by now, so we don’t think superseding patches have any performance issue. Hope this could help you, thanks.
