RRAS RIP routing ignoring updates RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a cisco 3550 l3 switch running RIPv2 and also am running Server 2008r2, rras and RIP.

I can see the cisco sending updates for it's two routes in netmon (and the correct networks are there):

    RipV2, networks 192.168.102.0/24 and 192.168.103.0/24, metric 1

However, RRAS is ignoring these received updates 90% of the time. It seems to wait until the routes have aged out, so connectivity is lost, then it updates again from the next route advertisement from the cisco.

You can see the counters incrementing dis-proportionally, the windows responses sent number is increasing at a much faster rate than responses received.

How can I find out why RRAS is dumping most of the cisco advertised routes? (the cisco is getting and updating from Windows just fine).

    Thanks

  • Wow! It's windows firewall blocking it. I created an allow all rule on incoming and it gets every update now.

So how come it lets the odd packet through but not all of them? I would have expected a firewall to block the lot or nothing.

    Interesting.

    Comments appreciated Thanks!
