WSUS uninstall fail

    Question

  • I use WSUS  SP1 on Win2K3 SP1 and it was installed with it's Internal database before, but have some problem with it's database. I removed Internal Database and installed SQL 2005 SP2 and attached DB to the new SQL server. I did all of it without touching instalation of WSUS. Just by editing the following registery key and pointing to the new SQL Server Instance:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Update Services\Server\Setup\SqlServerName

After that WSUS can connect and work with it's database. But the database of WSUS still had same problem and create Gigs of log files and event error based on some Indexing error.

I fixed this by rebuild index of currupt table and run DBCC DB and DBCC CHECKTABLE, so the problem of creating Gigs of log files solved but the other error repeating every minute or less in event viewer.

  • Hi Hossein,

Beside Diego's input, the following are the steps to manually remove the WSUS in English version:

    1. Download the SDK to obtain MSIZAP

       http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe

    2. From a command prompt, type:
    c:\MSIZAP T {2C0D7E35-EE6E-4DC7-BA13-2C68AEDEB59D}

    3. From a command prompt, type: sc delete wsusservice

    4. Again, From a command prompt, type:

        MSIZAP T {2C0D7E35-EE6E-4DC7-BA13-2C68AEDEB59D}

    5. From a command prompt, type: iisreset

    6.  Run regedit, delete this key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Update Services\Server\Setup

    7 Delete the installation directory:
    C:\Program Files\Update Services

8 Open IIS manager, delete all WSUS related virtual directory:

    ApiRemoting30
    ClientWebService
    Content
    DssAuthWebService
    Inventory
    ReportingWebService
    Selfupdate
    ServerSyncWebService
    SimpleAuthWebService

9.Using the following command to delete windows internal database if needed:

    msiexec /x {CEB5780F-1A70-44A9-850F-DE6C4F6AA8FB} callerid=ocsetup.exe

For Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Embedded Edition

    1) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server
Edit the "InstalledInstances" value and remove "MICROSOFT##SSEE"

    2) Remove the "MICROSOFT##SSEE" subkey under
         HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server

    3) Remove the "MSSQL.2005" subkey under
         HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server

    4) Rename the following folder:
          \%Windir%\SYSMSI\SSEE\MSSQL.2005\MSSQL\Data  to   \%Windir%\SYSMSI\SSEE\MSSQL.2005\MSSQL\Data.old
