Need Help Streaming mp4 Videos From URLs RRS feed

  • Question

  • Our library catalog has links to some .mp4 video files, users will click on the URL in each catalog record to play the videos. So these are not all in a file that the user clicks on to stream. Anyway, I had this working under Windows Server 2003 and Windows Media Services. BUT we got a new server, this one running 2012 r2.  My IT department has enabled Server Essentials and we have downloaded and installed the Media Pack.

I can't figure out under this new system how to get these files to stream.  I've looked at IIS Media Services (we're on IIS8), but I can't figure out how to set up the publishing point so it knows where to pull the video files from.  It's very confusing!  Can someone please help me with this?

  • Any updates on this? Did you get this to work?

  • Kind of a late response but came across your question while doing some research. I had the same issue when going from 2003 --> 2008. In IIS manager, go to MIME types and add a new one with a file name extension of .mp4 and mime type of video/mp4. That should do it!
