How to set WMI permissions on Windows 2012 R2 Server Core RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to configure permissions  on Windows 2012 R2 Server Core from a GUI version server. In 2008 I used to connect remotely with WMI Control, go to Security tab, expand Root to CIMV2 and grant permissions.

Now in Windows 2012 R2 I cannot expand Root - it is empty.

I opened the firewall with the command:

netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group="Windows Firewall Remote Management" new enable=yes

netsh advfirewall firewall set rule group="windows management instrumentation (wmi)" new enable=yes

I have "Configure Remote Management" enabled in sconfig.

I ran wbemtest remotely pointing to the Server Core and could read information with a query (extracted list of services).

    What am I missing?

Is there a different way of granting permissions to root\CIMV2 to a non-admin user? (Execute Methods, Provider Write, Enable Account, Remote Enable, Read Security).

Is there a Powershell script or command I can run locally on a Server Core to achieve it? It would be even better, as it would keep Server Core security tight.
