AD Zone getting converted as non AD Zone RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi ,

i have created an application for Managing DNS Zones ,so i use WMI  MicrosoftDNS_Zone  Class methods for creating and updating zone form my application,

    1. CreateZone  method for creating Zone
    2. ChangeZoneType method for Editing zone

(We do not have any method for editing so we are using change zone type method)

CreateZone Method has provision to create a zone with AD integrated

    DsIntegrated [in]

Indicates whether zone data is stored in the Active Directory or in files. If TRUE, the data is stored in the Active Directory; if FALSE, the data is stored in files.

ChangeZoneType Method has no such a provision (the DsIntegrated ) property

so when we use this method for updating a predefined AD Zone, It is converted as non-AD Zone  ,

i do not want to happen like this , If i edit a AD Zone then it should remain as AD Zone

Any ideas, suggestions , links ???

    Thanks,

    Joe

  • I would look into the MSDN forums.  I'm not sure if that is correct or not, but not to sure you can find someone for answer in here.

  • ChangeZoneType in MicrosoftDNS_Zone is specifically designed to do exactly that "Change the type of a zone", Not edit the zone or it's other properties, you can't use this API as if you would pass zero or null for the 'ZoneType' param that will be equal to change the zone type to "Primary zone."

Here is come sample projects, personally I would use the DNS API: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms682085(v=vs.85).aspx
