Certificate Services Install Failing - Windwos 2008 Enterprise

  • I am trying to install an Enterprise Root PKI server on a new install of Windows 2008 Enteprise server.  I am an Enterprise Admin, and the install appears to go through fine until the end.   I get the message:

Active Directory Certificate Services: Installation succeeded with errors

    <Error>: Certification Authority configuration failed.

The following role services were installed:

    Certification Authority
At this point certificate services will not start.  I have uninstalled, rebooted, and tries reinstalling with different cryptopgraphic providers, all with the same result.

The box has all current important updates.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Patrick,

the certocm.log file in %windir% should contain more details on the setup and why it fails.

    Best regards,

  • I had the exact same error.

The log indicated a permission problem with the account used during installation. I did not investigate it further, just tried using the domain administrator and that worked.
