SCCM 2012 Prerequisite Check fails --> Primary FQDN RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

when I am trying to install SCCM 2012 in your lab environment the prerequiste check fails. The failing prerequisite is "Primary FQDN" (Configuration Manager only supports the use of primary FQDN’s, where the DNS hostname (first label in the FQDN) matches the NetBIOS hostname of the computer.  The FQDN provided for this site system does not meet this requirement and cannot be used.  Correct the FQDN and try again.).

I do not really understand this? The problem happens for the system with the SQL server installed (not the same system on which I plan to install the SCCM site). The name of the sql server system FQDN is in form of computername.lab.company.net.

    Does anybody have an idea?

    Thanks,

    Bernd

  • Does C:\ConfigMgrPrereq.log show additional details?

  • Not really...

  • Are there any "special" characters in the computername (not A-Z, 0-9)?

  • I am having the same exact issue, and it is incredibly frustrating how bad this install has been.

  • Could you please provide some more information? Does the content of your logfile look exactly the same?
Have you added the computer account of the site server and the account of the user installing ConfigMgr to the local admins on the remote SQL box?

  • That was it, the computer name and service account name are the same.  When I checked the local admins group, I saw the name and in my head thought both were there until you made me double check.  I added the User account and it is now working fine so far.  Cheers!

  • Hi,

    Just verified this today.

I had '-' in the Server name of the remote SQL Server and it didn't work.

As soon as '-' is removed from the Server name, error disappeared from the pre-req checker.
