Intel 82599 10G NIC - The device cannot start (Code 10) - Windows Server 2019

    Question

  • Hi,

    On a fresh install of Windows Server 2019, the Intel 82599 10G NIC failed to start. Installed latest driver from intel. But only the 1G (onboard) are detected. The 10G ports cards are detected but the device cannot error.

    Motherboard - Supermicro X10SRL-F

    Attached screenshots for your reference.

    Please help.

  • Thanks for your response. Yes, it is certified.

    I found out the problem. There was a SFP mismatch. A 1G SFP was inserted in it so the NIC didn't start. So it proves that it will work only in 10G mode and not 1G / 10G mode.

  • I'd check the server is listed here as supported for Server 2019 OS.

    also don't forget to install the manufacturer chipset. The chipset allows the operating system to find and use devices integrated into the mother board.
