Win2012 license key activation on KMS servse RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everyone,

    We had one KMS server and there are two license key on it. I believe they are for Windows 2008 R2 and Office 2010.

    Now, we want to setup another Win2012 server physical box and add the new Win2012 license key to make it become a new KMS host for Win2012 and Win8 activation. My question is that what will happen to the current KMS server? Do I need to remove the current license on it first or both of them can be stayed at the same time without any conflict? Thank you.

  • Hi,

    I think you don't need to remove the current KMS host server:

    Windows Server 2008 R2 (KMS host 1) --> Windows Server 2008 R2 and Office 2010;

    Windows Server 2012 (KMS host 2) --> Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8;

    You need to make sure that the appropriate DNS records have been added properly. If the clients could be resolve DNS SRV record, the activation will be successful.

    Please post back the following command output if you are experiencing any issue both on server side and client side:

    slmgr /dli

    slmgr /dlv

    BTW, Windows Server 2012 could be activated via 2008 R2 KMS host.

    Regards,

    James
