Updates KB2785094 KB2756872 Failing on Server 2012

Question

Just did a fresh install and running through the updates. These updates both have failed multiple times using both Windows Update and the stand-alone versions. Here are the respective error messages from the Setup logs.
When using stand-alone update
Windows update "Update for Windows (KB2785094)" could not be installed because of error 2147956504 "The file is not a part of the assembly." (Command line: ""C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe" "C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\B53N01V8\Windows8-RT-KB2785094-x64.msu" ")

When using Windows Update

Any direction on how to fixe these updates would be greatly appreciated.

I found the error code 2149842967 (80240017 in hexadecimal) means that the update is not applicable to the system. I suggest you clean the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder and rerun Windows Update. If the error persists in Windows Update, please run Update Readiness Tool to verify the integrity of the system.
To run the System Update Readiness Tool, follow the steps that correspond with your version of Windows:
For Windows 8
- Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. (If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.)
- Type command prompt in the search box.
- In the list of results, swipe down on or right-click Command Prompt, and then tap or click Run as administrator.
- In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following commands exactly as they appear. Press the
Enter key after each command:
- DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
- DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- To close the Administrator: Command prompt window, type Exit, and then press Enter.
- Run Windows Update again.

I cleared the c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution directory and ran the Windows update. Same two updates came down and failed installation. So I I cleared the c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution directory once again and ran the two DISM commands as administrator. The first reported no errors and the second command said the system was repaired. I ran Windows update again and the same two updates were selected and both failed installation.

I don't know exactly what happened. I tried the following commands several times:
* DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
* DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
* sfc /scannowOn the next day all 4 updates installed sucesfully. After this, a new update was shown in Windows Update. I get the same error.
Das Windows-Update "Update für Windows (KB2764462)" konnte aufgrund eines Fehlers nicht installiert werden: 2147956504 "Die Datei ist kein Bestandteil der Assembly." (Befehlszeile: ""C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe" "C:\Users\Downloads\Windows8-RT-KB2764462-x64.msu" ")
I tried this again:
* DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
* DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
* sfc /scannowDirectly after this i tried to install this update without success.
I waited to the next day (without restart) and the update is installed over Windows Update. 'Der Status des Pakets KB2764462 wurde erfolgreich in "Installiert" geändert."
Very strange...

Somewhat like Ralf_DE, the process has mysteriously changed. Now it installs the two updates and says reboot or it will automatically reboot in 2 days. When you reboot, it installs the updates, counting from 1% to 100%, but then says it had a problem and reverts the update. It does this twice, and when it finally boots properly, the updates have not been installed.
Microsoft Folks... is there anything else we can do?
Saturday, January 26, 2013 4:40 PM -
With the lack of any other responses, I decided to do a fresh install from scratch, hoping that the issue would resolve itself. No luck... installed a lot of other updates, but when it came to these two, it failed again with the same type of error.
Where else can I look to see what the problem is?

I too am getting error 80073718 with KB2756872. I have tried sfc /scannow multiple times which then messed up my Access Anywhere, and I have tried dism multiple times. Nothing seems to work. I have also tried to install the update manually, and it fails as well.Thursday, February 14, 2013 9:09 PM

Same here, clean 2012 standard install with only Hyper-V role, those same 4 updates are showing up but failing to install...
Update for Windows Server 2012 (KB2756872)

Same issue here, with the same four updates, and I've now seen it on three different 2012 servers from three different customers. Reinstalling the OS does not help - the error occurs on a clean install. Sfc /scannow and the dism commands (dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth) likewise have no effect.
Some kind of MS response would be nice, even if it's "We don't know why this happens or what to do about it."

same issue, clean install on an HP ProLiant StorageWorks X1600 G2 server. Nothing is installed but the OS and a few HP drivers (storage, iLO). Like others, I've tried the above suggestions without success.
KB2756872
KB2770917

KB2785094

I had the exact issue as described. Updates (KB2756872), (KB2770917), (KB2779768) and (KB2785094) on Windows Server 2012 Standard would fail.
The fix for me was to do the following:
- Click Start, click Run, type dcomcnfg.exe, and then click OK.
- Click OK if you receive the UAC prompt.
- In the console tree, expand Component Services, and then expand Computers.
- Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
- Click the Default Properties tab.
- Select Connect in the Default Authentication Level list if it is set to None.
- Select Identify in the Default Impersonation Level list.
- Click OK, and then click Yes to confirm the selection.
- Close Component Services console.

All of the recommendations here, elsewhere and from MS support did not solve this issue for me. I've been working on this for a couple days and finally got it fixed, I'm not sure which part exactly solved it but I don't want to reintroduce the issue just to figure it out for sure, I'll leave it to others experiencing it.
Stop the services
net stop bits
net stop wuauserv
Clear out the update history
Del "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr*.dat"
Guides say to rename these, I just delete them, up to you
%systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore
%systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution\Download
%systemroot%\system32\catroot2
Fix the security descriptors of wuauserv and bits
sc.exe sdset bits D:(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;SY)(A;;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;BA)(A;;CCLCSWLOCRRC;;;AU)(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;PU)
sc.exe sdset wuauserv D:(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;SY)(A;;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;BA)(A;;CCLCSWLOCRRC;;;AU)(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;PU)
Reset winsock, press enter after each one
netsh
winsock
reset
exit
Restart the services
net start bits
net start wuauserv
Clear the component store
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
Restart
At this point I was getting errors when trying to find updates, I used the below program to fix the error. It works strangely, make sure you select to auto fix errors and run it multiple times until it actually does fix them.
Run 'windowsupdate.diagcab'(http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/C/9/6C970550-32AB-4235-9CDD-7FC9DD848BBB/windowsupdate.diagcab)- Proposed as answer by NickGuyver Saturday, March 16, 2013 12:16 PM

After last touching the box on Tuesday and having no success, I just set the box to try every night, ignored it, and figured MS would fix it eventually. After several more nights of failures, all four finally installed successfully.

Nicholas,
Brilliant! I ran the http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/C/9/6C970550-32AB-4235-9CDD-7FC9DD848BBB/windowsupdate.diagcab twice - the first time it fixed one problem, but found three others. The second time I ran it, it fixed the remaining three, and the update installed after that!
Well done!
UPDATE:
I spoke too soon...The update re-appeared in the available updates list, and is now failing again with the same error code - 0x80073718.
I ran all the steps this time (not just the diagcab), the error seemed to go away again and the update appeared to install successfully, but after doing a software update scan, it reappeared :-(
I'm at a loss!

Running the above diagcab twice fixed all of the problems.Tuesday, March 19, 2013 10:38 AM -
same problem here, i'm keep failing on KB2785094 and KB2795944 on my server 2012 standard.
I tried all the way list above, none of them is working for me.
There's nothing installed on the server except my SCCM 2012 SP1

Thanks NickGuyver, followed your post and on restart the system got stuck on "Cleaning Computer". I sent a remote shutdown request which got things moving. Re ran the update and 3 of the four updates went in. The KB2756872 failed again but it went in OK when I installed manually.Wednesday, May 1, 2013 11:49 AM

I too was plagued with this issue until I ran across: http://www.eightforums.com/windows-updates-activation/17523-kb2785094-failure.html
In my case - the problem was that I moved the System Tools and Ease of Accessibility folders into the Accessories folder. Once I moved them back the Update installed perfectly.

I have a Windows 2012 Server that is reporting the 0x800F922
I've been able to manually install any updates that won't install through Windows Update, except one:
KB2871690
Manual install fails but does not report the error.
I have attempted all the steps above, but it will not allow me to delete catroot2
What process needs to be terminated/stopped to do so?
Also, does Microsoft provide support for Windows Update? IF so, where?
