Quorum change

    Question

  • Hi all,

Currently, we have three node clustereing with three hyper-v nodes.  Now, I need to add another hyper-V physical node to the existing cluster.  Do I need to change quorum from Node Majority to Node and Disk Majority?  Do I need to create Quorum disk?  What's the recommended size? 1GB?

    Thank you.

  • You need to have an odd number of votes, with 4 nodes you can choose between a Witness Disk or a Witness File Share. For a witness disk, the cluster will never use more than approx 80MB's maximum but since the disk is required to be NTFS the practical size becomes 512MB+

  • Thanks for the reply.

    Is 5GB (allocated already) OK?

  • it depends, but normally 1 GB is enough, can also be later expanded :-)

  • Check out this doc, it should answer all your questions:

Short answer... you don't have to.  But adding a Witness to move to 5 votes will allow you to survive 2 failures.  Which could be 2 nodes... with only 4 nodes in Node Majority, you can only survive 1 failure.

You will see in the doc recommendations around configuring the witenss.

    Thanks!
