Turn Disk Write Caching RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have windows Server 2012 servers. It has own disks and SAN fiberchannel disks. Write caching policy is automatically active on server own disks. But on SAN disks is not.

do i have enable it for SAN dsks?

I use SAN disks for CSV volume.

  • Talk to your SAN vendor about their recommendation. Generally, the answer is to not cache SAN disks because if you have something in your local cache that has not been written to the disk and the server goes down, you have lost that data.  SANs do a pretty good job of caching their own data properly.
