  • hi,
1 you can enter slmgr /dlv in command prompt on server 2019 and look the product key channel .is it from oem or Microsoft volume GVLK or retail?
If the product channel is oem, you need to contact oem system vendor.
If the product channel is not oem, you can obtain a downgrade key by calling Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center:
    Microsoft Volume Licensing Service Center
    https://www.microsoft.com/Licensing/servicecenter/Help/Contact.aspx
    https://www.microsoft.com/Licensing/servicecenter/default.aspx

If there is active issue on server 2012 after downgrade,we can contact
    Microsoft licensing activation center
Microsoft Licensing Activation Centers worldwide telephone numbers

2 we can refer these documents to  downgrade your server 2019 , the process is similar.

  • "For expired Windows Server 2012 license, how to apply Windows Server 2019 license key ?"

You can't.  Windows Server 2019 would require a completely new installation, during which you would be able to activate the instance with your provided activation key.  You must first ensure that the platform on which you are currently running Windows Server 2012 is a supported platform for running Windows Server 2019 (www.windowsservercatalog.com).

It is possible, though not recommended, to perform an in-place upgrade from 2012 R2 or 2016 to 2019.  If you are currently running Windows Server 2012, you would first need to upgrade to 2012 R2.  Recommended method is a complete installation of Windows Server 2019 on supported hardware.

There is no process to downgrade a Windows Server operating system to a previous version.  That requires a reinstallation of the operating system.

  • You cannot apply a WS 2019 OS license for a 2012 one. Downgrade as well is not supported and I think that you should consider the possible side effects to do an in-place upgrade before proceeding as some of your applications may break up. In general, it is advised to perform a migration rather than an in-place upgrade.
