Parent and Child domain Logon Issues RRS feed

  • Question

  • So I am currently designing a new active directory structure for a system that we need to have seamless fail over in place. To do that I am creating a primary forest domain with two separate child domains. What I want to know is if i set this up will a user from one of the child domains be able to log in if that users domain controller's are down? Would said user just authenticate through the parent domain controller if i have a global catalog set up?

  • Hi,

No user won't be able to login since DCs of each child domain and parent domain will be separate. Suppose if DC of child domain A is down, their user's won't be able to authenticate themselves. Same for other domains.

Note down GC is used while user are accessing resources from some other domain suppose in a same forest. It has nothing to do with authentication.

    Thank you,
