KB967170 hotfix gets "The update does not apply to your system" on Windows Server 2008 SP2 running on VM ( esx/Dell )

    Question

  • Sir, We have a Windows server 2008 SP2 machine which runs as a VM (esx s/ware on Dell h/ware ). It has blue-screened a few times recently, all with a stop code starting 0x00000101. ( stop codes have been 0x00000101 (0x00000030, 0x00000000, 0x805d1120, 0x00000001 ) and 0x00000101 (0x00000030, 0x00000000, 0x8c714120, 0x00000002 )  )

The only hotfix which seems to apply is KB967170. The download offering is for Vista only - even though the article claims it all applies to server 2008 too. When we try to apply it we get "The update does not apply to your system".

Thanks for any help, Regards, Garry Ferguson

  • Hello,

i have no idea how you get the result that an auditing problem belongs to your blue screen:

"Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 do not correctly audit all the privilege use events, such as the "Every use of the rights of a role" event."

Can you clarify this solution for your problem? Also the hotfix in http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=967170&kbln=en-us is only for 64bit version, so which kind do you use? Sounds for me 32bit is used.
