Driver Intel (Device ID 10D6) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Everyone,

I have installed Windows Server 2016 Technical Preview 4 on a Dell PowerEdge 1950. Hardware have been recognized correcly except four network adapters whose device id is: VEN_8086&DEV_10D6. Device ID 10D6 should correspond to Intel(R) Gigabit VT Quad Port Server Adapter. I have tried the following drivers:

    http://www.driverscape.com/download/intel(r)-gigabit-vt-quad-port-server-adapter

and several other network drivers, but none of them work, I always receive "no intel adapters are present in this computer" or they are not recognized. Do you have any idea/suggestion?

    Thanks.

  • I have manged to install Intel(R) Gigabit VT Quad Port drivers Modding intel drivers. I have written a guide with the procedure:

    1. Download form driverscape (or another site) the latest windows 10 driver for Intel Gigabit VT Quad Port Server Adapter
    http://www.driverscape.com/download/intel(r)-gigabit-vt-quad-port-server-adapter
    Driver Version: 10.0.23.0
    Release Date: 2007-06-20
    File Size: 34.01M
    Supported OS: Windows 10 32 & 64bit, Windows 8.1 32 & 64bit, Windows 7 32 & 64bit, Windows Vista 32 & 64bit, Windows XP

    2. open up device manager and select the malfunctioning device.  Go to the Details Pane and Select Hardware IDs.

    3. We’ll use VEN_8086&DEV_10D6. Browse to the directory in PowerShell where we placed the unzipped install files earlier.  Use the following command.
    Get-ChildItem -recurse | Select-String -pattern “VEN_8086&DEV_10D6” | group path | select name

    4. Create a backup of e1q51x64.inf
    5. Edit file e1q51x64.inf in the following way

This is what e1q51x64.inf looked like after I made changes:

    6. Enable test mode and disable driver signing in order to install these modded drivers.  From an Administrative Command prompt:

    bcdedit /set LOADOPTIONS DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
    bcdedit /set TESTSIGNING ON
    bcdedit /set nointegritychecks ON

    7. Reboot the server (shutdown /r /t 0)
    8. Go back to device manager, select the malfunctioning device and click Update Driver, pointing it to the directory that contains our modified driver.  A Windows security warning will pop-up, click Install this driver software anyway.

    9. Repeat step 8 for the four network adapter

    10. Disable test mode with these commands

    bcdedit /set LOADOPTIONS ENABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
    bcdedit /set TESTSIGNING OFF
    bcdedit /set nointegritychecks OFF

    11. Reboot the server (shutdown /r /t 0)

  • The last version of Windows Server for which the Dell 1950 was certified was Windows Server 2008 - not even 2008 R2.  https://www.windowsservercatalog.com/results.aspx?text=poweredge+1950&=Go&bCatID=1282&avc=10&ava=0&OR=5

You are a little better with the NIC - it was last certified for 2008 R2.  https://www.windowsservercatalog.com/results.aspx?text=Gigabit+VT+Quad+Port+&=Go&bCatID=1282&avc=10&ava=0&OR=5

Since Intel did not qualify a driver for 2012, it makes sense that it would not be supported on 2016.

Your best bet is to try to get some newer hardware.  There are so many things that might need to be updated, and no vendor out there to update them, it appears you might be out of luck.

  • Hi Michele,

    Agree with Tim's suggestion.

In addition, I have took a look at the intel official site, found out it has updated a driver on 2016/1/7:

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/50398/Intel-Gigabit-ET-Quad-Port-Server-Adapter

    Maybe you could try this.

  • Dont need any of this, and yes, Intel did qualify the driver for 2012, if they didn't, Dell would not have been able to provide it. This is for the ET line, but it installs just fine on the VT

download these from Dell - signed, supported until widows 2019

Intel NIC drivers for Windows Server 2008 x64 and Windows Server 2012.

    https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-si/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=4trm7

Intel(R) Gigabit ET Dual Port Server Adapter
Intel(R) Gigabit ET Quad Port Server Adapter
Intel(R) Gigabit ET Quad Port Mezzanine Card

the INF file doesn't seem to consider it a valid driver, the VT is listed last in the list. The HardwareID matches, just have to force install it. There is a separate driver pack install to copy all the drivers to c:\program files\intel\drivers\production\W2012-x64\1G_82576_ET

This is the VT Quad driver from Dell, also installs fine on 2019, its also properly detected

Intel PCI-E 10Gig and 1Gig Family of Server Adapters Driver

    Enhancements
    - Enhanced by family version 10.2 to add support for Intel Gigabit VT Quad Port Server Adapter

    https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-si/drivers/driversdetails/?driverid=gd3yy

    As of post:
    - installed windows 2019 V1809
