Get-FileHash in PowerShell 4.0 -- output in HEX characters please!!! RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Please, it's not too late!  Please change the output of Get-FileHash in PowerShell 4.0 so that the hash is shown as hexadecimal characters like in EVERY other hashing tool in the history of the earth.  You don't know the disgusted groans and eye-rolling Microsoft will get if you do NOT change the output to hex characters.  (I can't believe it is even necessary to say this...)

  • Having the same problem, I use this script as a workaround: http://www.sysadmins.lv/CategoryView,category,PowerShell,4.aspx

    NB Why did you not post on connect, as suggested in the other answer?

    ----

    clumsy workaround, but entirely based on available stuff:

    $h = get-filehash .\Sample.zip -Algorithm MD5
    ([convert]::FromBase64String($h.hash) | % { $_.tostring("x2") }) -join ""
