  • Hi ,

Root Hints is a list of authoritative name servers for the root DNS names in the internet.

DNS Server will contact Root Hints only when it no Forwarders available or when Forwarders cannot resolve the query. This makes the process of name resolution using Root Hints to be longer. It is due to the fact that using Root Hints must wait for the result from other process.

So we always recommend to configure DNS forwarder to forward DNS queries for external DNS names to DNS servers outside that network.

To configure DNS Forwarders in Windows DNS Server, you can go to the DNS server properties in Forwarders tab.

    For your reference:

Configure a DNS Server to Use Forwarders

If you have anything unclear , please feel free to let me know.

    Best Regards,

    Candy

  • Thanks Candy,

As we checked our DNS server don't have option to add the IP in the forwarder tab.

Note:- Forwarders are not available because this is a root server

  • Hi ,

Did you mean that you create a own root DNS server? If yes, this will disable the forwarding and root hints options on the server since your server is now a root server.

Please check if the following link is helpful:

Is it possible to create your own root DNS server?
