  • I am also getting the same issue.  This is the second time I have installed server 2k3, and I did something last time which gave me the ActiveX permission information bar along the top of the address bar in IE6 and allowed the Windows Update to run.

It was a few weeks ago and I looked in so many places to find a solution that I have no idea what I did.

@Ravi, that link has zero to do with the question asked, and the only relevant link returned by the search there at technet links back to this exact thread ..

    The question still stands.

For some reason I think it the solution had something to do with Terminal Services, but it was a few weeks ago, and I didn't think I would ever need to do it again ..

  • I remember what I did.

You simply choose 'Windows Update' from the Tools menu in IE, allow the information bar ActiveX install warning, and that will install the ActiveX component that runs the update process.  Then you can go to the Windows Update website and update from there.

Don't forget to start and make automatic the BITS and Cryptography services so that the automatic updates can run (once you enable and setup it up).

  • I have this issue but I never get prompted to allow the ActiveX install.  I just get the error page.

    Any suggestions?
