Deploying 32bit Powerbuilder Components in Windows Server 2008 64-bit

    Question

  • Hi,

We have current application written in PB 9.02 with n-tier architecture. At present we use only 32bit environment. My current components (.dll files created in Powerbuilder) resides in MTS on Win 2003/2000 servers (all 32 bit environment). As a future upgrade I want to deploy my COM components on Windows server 2008 box with 64bit environment.

I tried installing components on 2008 but it is unable to install it on 2008 server (using Component Management Console from SysWow32). Is there anything specific which needs to be done to install 32 bit components on 64 bit enviroment ?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

Most 32bit software can work in 64bit systems.

I am afraid that PB 9.02 is incompatible with Windows Vista/Server 2008 32bit/64bit. According to the following compatibility site, Powerbuilder 11 is compatible with Windows Vista/Server 2008 and Powerbuilder 10 is not. Please upgrade your Powerbuilder to version 11 and check the result.

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/Search.aspx?type=Software&s=Powerbuilder

For more information, please contact Powerbuilder’s manufacturer - Sybase for detailed information.

    Hope it helps.
