How to change product key for Windows Server 2003

    Question

  • Hi,

I entered the incorrect key when installing the above O/S; does Microsoft Key Update tool work on W2K3 server?  If the tool doesn't work, how can I change the key to the correct one?

    Thanks.

  • Hello,

as far as i know this tools works only on Windows XP, also see:

If you use Volume licenses the already mentioned article should help and is easy top use.

  • Hello,

I have 2003 Enterprise SP2 and it doesn't work for me.

    When I try http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918342

and change OOBETimer then run %systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a

system told me that it is already activated.

  • Mario,

I had the same problem yesterday with 2003 Ent SP2, but I ran the ChangeVLKeySP1.vbs script and it did change the license key.  (I verified by using the free demo version of "Recover-Keys")

    Hope this helps,

  • I had the same issue.  When i tried the first time, I just changed one digit, and it said that Windows was already activated.  I then changed another digit and it asked me to activate.
