Help! RDP Connection Issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Everyone,

I have a production server that I made some updates to, specifically, .net 3.5 sp1. After the update completed successfully, I rebooted the server. After the reboot, I can ping it, but cannot RDP into the box. I am not at the console since this is a remote server. What other means can I utilize to connect to this box,
    Thanks,
    Tim.

  • Hi Tim,

Since you cannot RDP into the box, please test on local machine to see if you can telnet the port 3389 of the remote terminal server.

telnet  <ip address of the remote server> 3389

If not, I am sorry to say that you may have to go to the physical server console to manually troubleshoot the issue.

    1. Disable .NET framework 3.5 SP1.

    2. Run "netstat –noa" to ensure the TCP port 3389 is listening on the server.

    3. If not, please enable Remote desktop on it.

    4. You may also consider using Winrm command line tool for the remote administration purpose.

Windows Remote Management Command-Line Tool (Winrm.cmd)

    Hope it helps.
