Outlook does not sync with Office 365 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am having issues with 3 "newly" created account on Office 365 with Outlook 2013.

    Office 365 Accounts

    • All 3 accounts are new
    • All 3 had not have any emails imported
    • All accounts on the same domain etc etc

    Outlook 2013

    • Running in Windows 7/8 with EXCHANGE mode (not IMAP or POP)
    • It syncs initially, then does not send or sync anything (ie. emails, contacts, calendars, tasks etc)
    • Account cache of between 3-24 months - none works
    • Tried with Cache disabled - still persistent
    • Tried Outlook in Safe Mode - no difference
    • Outlook 2013 is FRESH Win7x64 install on a PC WITHOUT any Office - still same
    • Outlook 2013 on existing Win8x64 - same result
    • It is NOT an OST error as all 3 are NEW accounts and newly created OST
    • Tried that Outlook debugger website with 13 methods to try - still the same

    Outlook 2011 (Mac)

    • Created new Identity - works perfectly
    • Emails, Contacts, Calendars and Tasks all synchronise properly

I remember Microsoft used to make Microsoft products work with each other fantastic OOB - why does it work on a Mac but not on a Windows PC?

  • Hi,

Have you ever tried with a new Outlook profile? For how to create an Outlook profile, please refer to: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-help/create-an-outlook-profile-HA102749460.aspx

You might need to check if you have configured the account correctly. For how to set up your Office 365 or other Exchange-based email in Outlook 2013: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/office-online-help/set-up-your-office-365-or-other-exchange-based-email-in-outlook-2010-or-outlook-2013-HA102823161.aspx

  • Hi,

Thank you for your reply, and I will reply in point form as its easier:

    • New profiles over again on my Windows 8 PC - still the same
    • Removed profile and created with a new name with the same result
    • Tried in VM Win 7 x64 - still the same

I have linked my iPhone to the account and that syncs without issues all Emails, Contacts, Calendars and Tasks.

I have created the Exchange Profile in "Auto" mode via Outlook although have not done it manually because I cannot find my server details on the new interface, can you please advise how I can find those details?

  • Hi,

Thanks for your feedback. Just like you said, you might want to manualy set up these accounts in Outlook and verify result.

To configure Outlook connect with Office manually, we first need to determine your mailbox server name and proxy server URL.

However, this is beyond the range of my knowledge and out of scope of this forum. I would suggest you to seek anwsers in Microsoft Office 365 Community, where we have another dedicated support team can help you with this.

    Thanks,

  • Thanks Ethan,

One thing I have found is that when I first load Outlook (any PC) it actually maintains sync.

    ie.

    • Have Webmail open
    • Open Outlook - Outlook then Syncs
    • Move something in Webmail within first minute of opening - replicates
    • Move something in Outlook within minute of last activity - replicates online
    • Do anything normally expected and it will replicate in both directions as long as you maintain some activity
    • Let Outlook idle for say 2 minutes, Outlook then stops sync

Not sure if the above will help, but will give further update once I can find the server details for manual configuration.

  • This is very frustrating, I cannot seem to get the Exchange Server as the "About" is no longer available, and I cannot get the Exchange GUID via Powershell:

I have found that my mailbox seems to be linked to: pod51057.outlook.com

Tried a manual to that name and get an infinite Username/Password loop - dead end.

Tried to connect via PowerShell: http://help.outlook.com/en-us/140/cc952755.aspx

However I was getting errors, but got it working and got the Mailbox ID:

Ok, from here, I have configured Mail as per this article, however used Mailbox ID instead of the server: http://blogs.technet.com/b/hot/archive/2012/02/06/how-to-manually-configure-outlook-office-365.aspx

Account successfully connected and started Outlook - however it failed, so I determined the mailbox server as per this article: http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/685/t/141805.aspx

I got the server as hkxpr06.outlook.com

I entered this details into Outlook and the following error appears:

Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The set of folders cannot be opened. The of folders cannot be opened.

Bad English syntax! Wouldnt have mind, but Outlook still does not work, so re-opened and oddly it worked!

Waited for the sync to finish...

  • Hi Ethan,

FYI, it still does not work.

When manually configured, it caused Outlook to crash randomly and does not sync correctly either although usually after 5 minutes or so.

Any further advice would be great.

    Thanks,

    Denny

  • Hello Denny,

    Thanks for the update.

As per descriptions, actually I'm thinking you might also want to check on the Office 365 host side. Maybe some configurations or property settings.

Try Microsoft Office 365 Community, and see if we have any positive responses out there.

    Thanks,
