  • I have figured out the issue here (at least in my case). After exmaining C:\Users\<USER ACCOUNT>\AppData\Local\Temp\MWusCa.log I found that the installer could not wirte changes to the database because I have mirroring enabled. I disabled mirroring and tried again and the install was successfull.

Get you a error message? Pls post the exact error message. Have a look
in eventviewer. Start > run > eventvwr.msc [ENTER].

  • Hello,

I am having this same issue. The text from event viewer is as follows:

Product: Windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2 - Update 'Hotfix for Widows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2 (KB2734608)' could not be installed. Error code 1603. Additional information is available in the log file C:\MySetup.log.

I have the MySetup logfile if needed. to clarify i have installed KB2720211 and after trying to install kb273460 using the method stated on the Microsoft download page I can no longer launch the snap in on the WSUS server itself but can connect to it using a snapin on another machine.

    try to change this regkey:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Update Services\Server\Setup]

Set it to 0 and try again.

  • There are a lot of options, what do I need to change exactly?

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Update Services\Server\Setup]

It seems to all go wrong when attempting to update the database, but there are no permissions issues reported here or recorded on the server. The account in question has temporarily been assigned the sysadmin role on this server.

  • Hi,I am looking after the WSUS in our environment and am facing some issue in installing the KB2734608.

We have configured 1 main(upstream) WSUS server and 4 downstream servers.

The kb272011 is installed on all of the WSUS servers and KB2734608 installed somehow on 1 downstream server.

Since te 2012 servers are not reporting correctly into the WSUS console and throwing up update error 800b0001 on searches for updates .

I decided to install KB2734608 on the remaining WSUS servers but am unable to. As per kb need to install the KB on the top of the heirarchy i.e upstream server. Have tried 2 methods to install the KB x64 but at the end I always get the popup that "There is a problem with this Windows installer package.." .

    1st method:

Simple try to run the exe after backing up the DB and the WSUS files.

The mmc crashed and corrupted registry after the system was rebooted .

    2nd method:

shutdown the AV services, IIS and Wsusservice via cmd line. EXE again threw the error popup.

After reboot the system crashed and reg corrupted.

Have restored the server from its previous image.

In the setup log under my profile I am getting the errors in MWusSetup:

Can someone please advise how can i proceed.

    thanks!
