Question regarding Hyper-V environment planning

  • Hi,

We are planning a Hyper-V environment for our client. The client has about 70 workstations and 10 servers. There is already test environment running on one Hyper-V host. This server's hardware specs are: HP Proliant DL380 G6, 18 GB RAM, Intel Xeon E5520 CPU and 2 TB hard disk.

There current servers have very common roles... AD, DNS, DHCP, file, print, WSUS, Exchange (2003!), etc. Nothing that special that should be considered here.

The client is budjeting very soon and I should recommend them something. :)

I think I would recommend them to have two Hyper-V host server and one shared storage. What do yout think?

Can we use the existing server (HP Prolian DL380) with one Hyper-V host and buy only one new server? Or should we buy two new servers?

How about the storage, any recommendations? What RAID to use? What disk speed? What system (iSCSI, SAN)? What are the key differences?

    Best regards,
