May 2018 pathch install issue

  • Hi,

    Windows 7 Enterprise Edtion 32 bit machines are going to Windows Recovery mode after installing the below patches. 

    Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80242016: 2018 (05) Monthly security quality update rollup for Windows 7 for x86-based systems (KB4103718)

    Cumulative monthly security quality updates package for Windows 7 for systems based x86 (KB4103718)

    2018-05 Cumulative package of quality and security updates for the .NET Framework 3.5.1, 4.5.2, 4.6, 4.6.1, 4.6.2, 4.7, 4.7.1 in Windows 7 (KB4099633)

    Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 (KB4103768)

    System is restoed and machiens are excluded from patch installation. Please let me know how to resolve the issues

  • There is an issue with the above update.It says "A stop error occurs on computers that don't support Streaming Single Instructions Multiple Data (SIMD) Extensions 2 (SSE2)."

    Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.

  • I have the same issue on dell optiplex 3050 with Windows 7 x64 Professional.

    Errors are:

    SFC and CheckSUR are reporting no issues.

    I tried to install both a Rollup update KB4103718 and KB4103712 (Security-only update) - the symptoms are similar in both cases - the update is installed successfully, then we reboot, log on to the system and either the "Welcome" screen hangs for a very long time (hour or more), or we get to the desktop with a black background and shortcuts and nothing works, the system does not respond to mouse button presses, nor to the keyboard, nor to short presses of the power button. At the same time, the activity of the hard disk diode blinks with a certain periodicity. That's it - blinked, pause 10-20 seconds, again 1 short blink. As if there is an attempt to access the disk, but not successful.

    Hence my thoughts:
    I have a feeling that the problem is about either a large hard disk Seagete 8TB or a RAID controller LSI MR9260-4i, on which this disk works.

    I have the same issue on machine with Intel® Core™ i5-6500 Processor, which according to official info support SSE4.1

  • same issue here to. I have a HP compaq dx2250 running windows 7 pro 32bit sp1 2Gb memory.Its running an 2.2ghz AMD athlon x2 processor. Its stuck in a boot repair loop which I cant get out of. In my case the updates were KB4103718 and KB4099633 both of which the logs tell me failed to install.
