XP reject to edit the Wifi Auth Type? RRS feed

  • 问题

  • Yesterday, our CFO come to our new office, but he found that his Laptop can't connect to our WiFi.

XP ask for Password all the time and no access action after PW entered.

I don't confirm the version of XP, but I think should be XP Pro Sp3 because he said this Laptop installed less one year.

When I try to edit the SSID advance properties, so that I can confirm if the Auth tyoe is WPA2 AES or TKIP (we setup 2 kind of Key), but each time XP said my change doesn't saved, even I want to remove this SSID.

It's so crazy, how can I deal with this situation?

Regarding the WiFi, I have some new Idea now.
Since we are planned to use a Global Same setting in the new office,

Thank you Alex, I think I have got the main Problem just like I said above.

The problem is caused by the SSID and Security setting from Globle Policy.

We use the same SSID but No 802.1x secuirty Type, but the GPO push this setting those Laptop. And We can't change the setting since It's the globle setting for whole group.

Then when we use the same SSID we will found that it's impossible for those who has got the globle setting to connect it.

I have found another 2 laptops which have the same problem.

So I add an Guest SSID on the WLC, they can reach and connect as normal.

So it's not a System problem, maybe an Infrastructure or Security Problem.

    Thank you for your help.

  • Thank you for your post. I will answer your queries one by one.

Regarding how to identify the version of Windows XP, you may either open System Properties from Control Panel or About Windows from
Help menu in Windows Explorer. The version of Service Pack is displayed there.

  • Regarding Windows cannot save the change of wireless setting, I suggest you may remove the wireless connection icon from Control
Panel, then reinstall the wireless network adaptor's driver. And completely clear out all histories of WiFi connection.

If the issue still pesists after reinstalling, try creating a new account in Windows and have a test.
See whether the problem also happens in a different user account.

    Thansks a lot Alex.

Since I have no admin right that time means that what I can do is very little.

This is also the problem that I need to meet the Laptop from all of the world but most of then I have no Local admin.

Regarding the WiFi, I have some new Idea now.

Since we are planned to use a Global Same setting in the new office, we use a same SSID as other branch, but their Wifi now is used WPA2-Enterprise mode which will setting by GPO automatically. now we use a temp solution, which have a same SSID but only WPA2 personal since our network and server doesn't be ready. So if they have used this SSID in other branch, then it's impossible to change it because of the GPO setting?

    Thanks and Best regards,

    Cloud

  • It might be. This also needs you to change the SSID to have a test and confirm.

I'm not sure what exactly do you mean by that "Global Same"? In my opinion, you can keep almost every settings same except the SSID.
There's no apparent relationship between SSID and system settings. Interruption issue is very easily caused by duplicated SSID.

  • By the way, since you can do little on your CFO's laptop, I would also suggest you to have more test outside this laptop.

If you have another WiFi device which has similar configuration as your CFO's laptop,
use this device to have a test. See if the issue also happens on this device.

If it does, please have a look at your WiFi router's web configuration. Try reseting the router's DHCP,
and make sure the available IP segment to be dynamically assigned is large enough.
This would help the router to assign IP to your CFO's laptop successfully.

  • I agree with you. I think your SSID and Security setting from Globle Policy has the highest priority, which rejects local setting to
    edit related configuration.
