User account cannot connect, but mine can.

    问题

  • Good morning,

    One of our users cannot connect to the remote desktop using their personal computer. The user is currently running Windows 7. The error message they receive is, "An authentication error has occurred. The function requested is not supported." I have tried a few methods to get them logged in, but my efforts have failed. I am also aware of a security patch that went through on May 8th, and I have already tried the workaround to allow connections from computers running any version of the RD.

    Interestingly enough, I am able to log into my own account using their computer. I am also able to login to their account from my computer. However, I am unable to login to their account with their personal computer. Why is that? I'm insinuating there may be a security issue causing their username to be blocked by their computer.

    Thank you,

    Alex

答案

  • Hi,

    It may be caused by May security update. If one pc received the update but the target pc hasn't implemented the CredSSP update, the pc receives the error message when it tried to connect to that pc.

    As a workaround

    1.you can push a Group Policy out or edit a registry key locally

    Policy path: Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Credentials Delegation Setting name: Encryption Oracle Remediation

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\CredSSP\Parameters]
    "AllowEncryptionOracle"=dword:00000002

    2.Rollback the update temporary

    3.From Windows 7, it’s setting the option to the Less Secure option rather than More Secure:

  • Thank you for the feedback!

    The problem is resolved now. The user claimed to have forced a Windows update on their computer. I was referred to this link: https://portal.msrc.microsoft.com/en-us/security-guidance/advisory/CVE-2018-0886.
