Folder named Mircrosoft in the registry.

    Question

  • I have a folder named Mircrosoft in the registry  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ next to the microsoft folder.

    Is this a virus or something.

  • I think it’s malware of some kind.

    You could Export the whole key, delete it and monitor the result or better still run Microsoft’s Safety Scanner. Boot the computer to Safe Mode, i.e. start tapping F8 when you switch on, then choose Safe Mode with Networking. Now download, save and run a full scan, get it here http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

  • I found this "Mircrosoft" registry folder also, with the same CLSID numbers.  Has anyone determined what it is?  Should I delete it?  (The ms security scanner found nothing.)  Thanks.
