How to activate Windows 8 Pro with Media Center?

  • Well, first I got a laptop pre installed with Windows 8, and I got a Windows 8 Pro with Media Center Build 9200 from a friend.  Then, the Pro with Media Center got deactivated and I can't reactivate it.  It said it got blocked, I guess too many people used it.  Now I tried to put a new Windows 8 Pro with Media Center, but the product key got error 0xC004F061.  Then I tried putting in a Windows 8 Pro, and it said:

"The product key you entered does not work with this edition of Windows 8.

You must either run a Windows 8 Setup or enter a Windows 8 Pro with Media Center Product Key."

So I am stuck, and I also don't know where to find my product key that was pre installed with my laptop.

Someone please help. I have 30 days to reactivate my Windows until it will stop working.

  • The error message you used an upgrade key for a clean install:

    # specified product key can only be used for upgrading, not
    # for clean installations.

Buy a proper license and don't use a key from a "friend".

  • If I buy a proper Windows 8 Pro Pack, will it work?

Also, how do I do a clean install?

  • It will work if you purchase the Windows 8 Pro with full license, not for upgrade.

Here is the information about clean install with USB flash.
