The Usage Tracking feature provides support for reporting the usage of the following Microsoft server products:

  • Microsoft Windows Server (versions 2000 through 2012)
  • Microsoft Exchange Server (versions 2003 through 2013)
  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (versions 2003 through 2013)
  • System Center Configuration Manager (versions 2007 through 2012)
  • Systems Management Server (versions 2003 and 2003 R2)
  • Microsoft SQL Server (select editions, versions 2000 through 2012)
  • Lync Server (2010 through 2013)
  • Windows Client Volume License (Windows Vista SP1 through Windows 8)
  • Remote Desktop Services (for Windows Server 2008 R2 and later)
  • Terminal Services (for Windows Server 2008)

When inventorying an environment and discovering installed servers, MAP Toolkit always reports the version of server product installed and the edition of the product (if applicable).  MAP Toolkit reports slightly different sets of usage information depending on the capabilities of that server product.  Here’s a list of what’s covered for each product:

[1] Edition usage refers to reporting Standard vs. Enterprise feature usage.  For example, using  the ActiveSync feature of Exchange is an Enterprise feature, using a standard mailbox in Exchange is a Standard feature.

[2] MAP counts the number of deployed user mailboxes, but cannot track usage of the mailboxes.  Therefore, device counts are not provided for Exchange, and user counts represent deployed mailboxes, not actual usage of the mailboxes.
