There are several pre-requisites to installing Microsoft CRM 2011 on a desktop.  The installer itself tries to install these but when your trying to deploy this silently via SCCM there can be some issues, especially if the machine doesn't have internet access or a proxy server is involved.  Without the pre-requisites the install will fail.

In order to ensure that CRM 2011 is installed successfully you should set up software dependencies within SCCM.

The application requires the following pieces of software installed:

  • Microsoft Outlook
  • Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2
  • Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 x64
  • Windows Identity Foundation
  • Microsoft Report Viewer
  • Windows Live ID Sign-in Assistant
  • Microsoft Online Services Sign-in Assistant

Additionally to that Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 x64 requires the x86 edition is installed before it can install so ensure that dependency is also set up.
