Message

Session ReadyBoot stopped due to the following error: 0xC0000188

Cause

This error message is logged before the first user logs into the computer during OOBE when the ReadyBoot session log: C:\Windows\Prefetch\ReadyBoot\ReadyBoot.etl, is reaching the maximum file size.

The occurrence of this error message will not affect the operation of the computer. During a normal boot, Windows SuperFetch shuts down this process before the log file exceeds the maximum file size.

This is related to how the kernel variable, KeBootTime, and the system time are calculated in Phase1Init when no time zone is stored in the registry. This typically happens during the first boot into the new operating system during a clean install or upgrade, or if the user deletes the following registry:

        HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\TimeZoneInformation\ActiveTimeBias.

User action

The logging of this error will not affect the operation of your computer. ReadyBoot is used by the ReadyBoost service that optimizes a minimum boot time of your computer.
