OVERVIEW

You have just built a new solution using the Synchronization Service Engine.

You want to validate your exports prior to exporting them into your production data source.

The purpose of this document is to help guide you through different ways to be able to validate your exports before exporting to your production data source. You could utilize just one, or combine them as well to fully ensure that your data goes out correctly.

Steps

EXPORT TO A DROP FILE
  1. In the Synchronization Service Manager Console, select Management Agents
  2. Select the Management Agent
  3. From the Actions menu, select Configure Run Profiles
  4. Click the New Profile button
    1. NAME: Export to Drop File
    2. Click the Next Button
    3. TYPE: Select Export from the drop down
    4. Click the Set Log File Options button
    5. Choose the 3rd Radio button down – Create a log file and stop the run. Do not export to data source (test only)
    6. In the Text box, type the name of the file that you want to generate. (e.g. MyManagementAgentExport.XML)
    7. Click the Ok button
    8. Click the Next button
    9. Click the Finish Button
    10. Click the Apply and then the Ok buttons
  5. To test, simply select Run from the Actions menu.
  6. Select Export to Drop File
  7. Let it complete the Export
  8. Navigate to %programfiles%\Microsoft Forefront Identity Manager\2010\Synchronization Service\MADATA
  9. Select the name of the management agent
  10. You should see the XML file

SEARCH CONNECT SPACE – PENDING EXPORTS

  1. In the Synchronization Service Manager Console, select Management Agents
  2. Select the Management Agent
  3. From the Actions menu, select Search Connector Space
  4. Change the Scope to Pending Exports
  5. Check Add, Modify and Delete
  6. Click the Search Button
  7. This displays objects that are set to be exported
  8. You can double click on an item to understand what is being changed within the object

EXPORT USING A THRESHOLD

  1. In the Synchronization Service Manager Console, select Management Agents
  2. Select the Management Agent
  3. From the Actions menu, select Configure Run Profiles
  4. Click the New Profile button
    1. NAME: Threshold Export
    2. Click the Next Button
    3. TYPE: Select Export from the drop down
    4. Check Specify the number of objects to process
    5. Enter a number (e.g. 5)
      1. This will be the number of objects exported. Once exported, you can review the information exported to see how the data looks.
    6. Click the Next button
    7. Click the Finish button
  5. To test, simply select Run from the Actions menu
  6. Select Threshold Export
  7. Let it Export
  8. Validate information in Active Directory
