we plan to have various SSPs in our farm. We have security requirements to isolate search indexes. The question is how to proceed with the index file location.
- Can I use separate SSPs with a single Index server?
- Can I use different index file locations or do I have to use the standard one?
- The standard index share is SearchIndexPropagation. Do I need to create additional shares if I have additional SSPs/Index File locations??
Plan Shared Service Providers
Usually the indexes are in the same root location, each individual index will have its own folder within the index root.
I know with SP2010/SP2013 you can create different search topologies (and index locations) for each search service, I'm having difficulty remembering if you can do this with SP2007. I want to say you can, I recall changing the topology in the Search Admin page.
In an SSP you can specify the index server and index file location, you can use a different index file location, the stsadm command will auto do the sharing when you configure a propagation file location with stsadm, here are some articles you can take a look.
